- INTRODUCTION:
-
- Turbo Financial Assistant (TFA) is a high speed financial planning
- tool. A nearly 100% functional demonstration version has been placed
- in the public domain as a shareware product. A fully functional
- version is available to users who register.
-
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
-
- + IBM or IBM compatible personal computer with 128k memory
-
- + 80 column printer connected to LPT1 (optional)
-
- + Color or monochrome 80 column monitor
-
- + PC or MS-dos operating system
-
- DISTRIBUTION:
-
- Individuals, BBS system operators, user groups, etc. may freely
- distribute the demonstration version of Turbo Financial Assistant
- (TFA). This file will follow the filename conventions TFAxxxD.COM -
- the 'D' indicating demo version. Registered users may make as many
- copies of the full version of TFA as they desire so long as they insure
- that the program is used for their purposes on no more than one
- computer at a time.
-
- SUPPORT:
-
- Registered users may phone or write for support with the product.
- I will make every effort to resolve any problems which may arise. I
- welcome suggestions and/or criticism by non-registered users.
-
- COMPATIBILITY:
-
- I have personally tested TFA on IBM PC/XT and AT computers with
- monochrome, RGB, EGA and Hercules video cards. TFA functions properly
- on IBM compatible computers, Compaq Portable, 80286 and 80386 products.
-
- VIDEO SNOW:
-
- Some IBM CGA adapters exhibit 'video snow'. This is a problem
- with the adapter and does not represent a bug in TFA. Most likely the
- only screen which will exhibit the snow is the ShareWare message.
-
- PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE:
-
- Turbo Financial Assistant is written in Borland International's
- Turbo Pascal Language with in-line 8088 assembler routines. If
- represents my first venture at shareware software. It is not copy
- protected, however the demonstration version TFA???D.COM is impaired in
- that certain features will not function. As an example you can display
- the amortization schedule on screen but cannot print it on the printer.
-
- LIMITATIONS:
-
- Turbo Financial Assistant (TFA) was not designed to amortize the
- national debt. If you need to amortize or determine the interest
- appreciation on a $150,000,000 investment I suggest you purchase one of
- the high power (and high cost) financial packages available. If you're
- like me and like to predict the cost of a $50,000 mortgage or a $15,000
- auto loan then TFA will serve you well. You needn't waste your time
- trying to enter $1,000,000,000 into TFA for an amortization. I can
- tell you right now you will be disappointed with the results.
-
- ACCURACY:
-
- TFA was compiled with Borland International's plain vanilla pascal
- compiler. Although the BCD compiler was not used, the accuracy of
- mathematical calculations should be more than suitable for your
- purposes. Keep in mind that each lending institution has different
- ways of compounding interest, still, TFA should provide you with
- results close to those obtained by your bank or savings and loan
- institution.
-
- ENTERING NUMBERS:
-
- Minimal error checking is done on the numeric entries provided by
- you. If you use dollar signs ($) or commas in your entries the
- program will choke, spit and die. Decimals are naturally allowed in
- decimal values, but are not acceptable in integer entries. Watch the
- prompt line (line 25) and the examples provided. If the example shows
- a decimal value then you may enter a decimal number, if only integers
- are shown as examples do not attempt to enter a decimal number.
- Possibly future versions will incorporate more elaborate error checking
- at this level.
-
- COMPOUNDING:
-
- Compounding of interest earned and charged is based on compounding
- 12 times per year.
-
- FUNCTIONS:
-
- 1. Amortization of Loan:
-
- This allows a straight amortization schedule to be printed on
- the printer or displayed page at a time on the screen. The
- printed amortization contains 3 years per page. A 30 year
- mortgage requires 10 pages. If the calculated payments,
- multiplied by the number of payments, results in a balance
- remaining on the principle a message to that effect will be
- displayed on the final screen page. On the printed copy the
- remaining balance will be listed on the last month of the
- amortization.
-
-
-
- 2. Future Value of Present Sum:
-
- If you have $52,872.23 in your savings account and your bank
- is paying 6.7% interest you can calculate the amount of
- growth over the period of months you select.
-
- 3. Early Payoff of Loan:
-
- If you've ever though about paying a loan off early, you may
- have wondered how much the cash payoff figure would be. Most
- reputable lending institutions allow early payoff without
- applying penalties. Check your contract to determine if this
- is your case. TFA can provide you with a reasonable estimate
- of the cash payoff of most loans.
-
- 4. Future Value for Regular Deposits:
-
- Like your Christmas Club account or payroll deduction plan,
- this function will add compound interest to your deposits for
- the period you specify and display the result.
-
- 5. Regular Deposits for Future Value:
-
- If you've decided it's time to start saving for your childs
- college education, a new fishing boat or the down payment on
- a home this should help you plan your saving strategy. Enter
- the desired future value (you goal). Tell TFA how many times
- per year you will make deposits, the interest you will
- receive on your deposits and for how many months you will
- continue to make deposits.
-
- 6. Loan or mortgage comparisons:
-
- If you're trying to decide how to finance a new car use this
- function to estimate how long you should finance for. You
- can vary either the term of the loan (years), interest rate,
- or amount of the loan. With todays fluctuating rates you may
- want to list a $80,000 loan for 25 years at 5 to 15% in .5%
- increments. The monthly payment (principal and interest)
- will be displayed along with the total interest charge for
- the loan assuming the loan runs to expiration.

- MISCELLANEOUS FUNCTIONS:
-
- CALENDAR:
-
- From the main menu call the calendar display with the letter
- 'C' or the F2 function key. The calendar was thrown in for
- fun. You may find it handy for looking up dates. Use the
- function keys to quickly jump in 50 years increments from
- 1850 to 2050, January through December. When you have gotten
- as close to the month that you can with the function keys,
- use the up, down, left and right arrow keys to locate the
- exact month. The home key will always return you to the
- current month as established by your system clock/calendar.
- Escape exits and remembers the selected month for the next
- time the calendar function is called.
-
- HELP:
-
- Help is called from the menu by pressing the letter 'H' or F1
- function key. Once in help you move up and down through the
- pages with the up and down arrow keys. ESCape returns you to
- the program.
-
- REVIEW:
-
- This procedure allows re-displaying the result of the last
- calculation. From the main menu press F3 or the letter 'R'
- to display the last result. Press any key to return to the
- main menu.
-
- SHAREWARE:
-
- Shareware software may be copied and distributed without payment
- to the software author. If you find the software useful and like the
- program you are urged to contribute to the software developer. I have
- devoted many hours to writing TFA and hope that if it satisfies your
- requirements you will be so inclined as to send me a $4.00 contribu-
- tion. TFA may not be sold or incorporated into any other software
- product without the written permission of John M. Jones. Modification
- of the software is not permitted.
-
- For your $4.00 contribution I will mail you a diskette with the
- latest version of TFA, and will keep you advised of updates, and
- possible new products. If you have any suggestions or comments
- concerning TFA I would appreciate receiving them as well.

- updates to registered users. I will however advise registered users of
- the availability of updates, listing the changes that have been made,
- along with the minimal update fee (probably in the $2.50 range. At
- your option you can send a formatted diskette, return postage, and a
- self-addressed return label and I will update the program for $1.00.
